RAFIP holds meeting at Ft. Meyer

RAFIP folks gathered at Ft. Meyer and, as always, it is truly great to meet and greet friends. For me, Desi, it was the first time I had seen Lou Ferguson, Ray Kazanjian, Charlie Schwab and Ron Alvin in way too many years. It was also great to see Ted Stanfill whom I have not seen for some time.

Wally and others asked that I take responsibility for keeping this group going. I accepted and I will do my best to keep it going and hopefully get some of the newly retired or about to be retired folks interested. I know us older folks may not know them and they may not know us, but we need to know each other better.

What we need to do is to make sure all USAF Intel folks know and understand that there is a good life after service to the country and to the USAF. Many of us can help and mentor the "younger" retirees and help to answer their questions or even work with them to find employment inside or outside intelligence.

As I mentioned at the meeting, I do not do any work, at present, within the field of intelligence, military or civilian. John Grimsley, a client of mine, runs a moving van company.

When I was on active duty, I really appreciated meeting and talking to retired folks, Jack Thomas comes to mind, among others. By talking to the "elders" I figured I could cut down on the mistakes I might make and it did help. Moreover, I got a good sense that when retirement came, my life would not end, and maybe just begin again.

Some folks may have wondered where OP Ditch was. Unfortunately, his brother Roland passed away last week. This was particularly sad because Roland worked for my company. We will miss Roland and we will hope to see OP at the next meeting.

Many folks at the meeting were concerned about Jack Thomas, 93, since he was definitely scheduled to attend. Thanks to Ben Romero, he wrote and told me that Jack had fallen the day before and hurt his back again. I have no further word.
